In total, there are 37 stories in this book. In this blog post we have taken you through the contents of each story and have given an introduction on how it can be used today. To know more about this culture and the history behind it, please read our article on Kambi Katha Amma pdf 12. 1) The Powers of Kambesvara Amma The powers of the goddess are many. We have discussed three types of powers she has. Her own relationship with her husband, the god Muruga. The boons she grants to people praying to her, and her own power of transforming humans into divine beings (Devas) by bathing them in her sacred waters. All these are the gifts (illahai) she gives to people who ask for them! There are three ways that Keralites worship Kambesvara Amma. These are: The first way is through worshiping her through the long procession (paraya-pooja). This is the most widely used way of worshiping her. It consists of 108 archanai(steps of worship) that are performed by carrying an image of the god on the head of a devotee. The second way is through praying to her at home. This is done by worshipping her in small temples or homes through diyas (lights) and flowers. She is also called upon to give relief for any problems faced by people, which she does. She has an immense support base among women, children, and teenagers who all ask for boons from her. The third way to worship Kambesvara Amma is through nithya-pooja(daily worship). This is done by offering her a small amount of money every day and praying to her for the things she does. 2) The Beginning of Amma Kambesvara Amma has said in one of the stories that she was born at Tiruttani and that triggered the rise of Amman worship in Tamil Nadu. This happened during the reign of king Mutharaiyar, who ruled from Tirukannapura. There were two devotees who had great faith in Kambesvara Amma and they used to do all their daily pooja (worship) themselves on a daily basis on top of a hill near their town. This hill was known to people as Kadappakkam. Once a king from a neighbouring town stopped by the hill and saw Amman’s devotee. The king was very surprised and wondered who the human being on the top of the hill could be. When he was close enough to physically see, he realised that it was a woman! He then enquired from the devotees, who told him that Kambesvara Amma had appeared in their town and they prayed to her every morning on the hill she resides. cfa1e77820
